Thank you to the Law Society of Ireland for having me deliver a lecture and workshop on taxation issues related to conveyancing.
The topics that I spoke about included Solicitors obligations for:
- Local Property Tax
- Rates
- Water Charges
- Stamp Duty
- Household Charge and
- Non Principal Private Residence charge.
Clients will have to produce evidence of payment or exemption for all of these taxes, charges and duties.
Solicitors are effectively put in the position of being "tax collectors" at the time of the disposal of property if the tax has not already been paid.
