Are you compliant?
If you are a retailer are you in compliance with all of your consumer law obligations?
The Regulator in charge of consumer law in Ireland the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has provided some information on the enforcement actions that it took in 2016 in relation to retailers and service providers for breaches of and failure to comply with consumer legislation.
The regulator (CCPC) also reviewed 140 websites for compliance with Consumer Rights under the European Union (Consumer Information, Cancellation and Other Rights) Regulations 2013
Some of the breaches in 2016 were for:
Failure to refund delivery charges to consumers when cancelling orders;
Failure to provide information on the right to cancel;
27 fines for failure to display prices – the penalty fine was €300;
7 compliance notices against traders for overcharging;
