When you make a claim on your insurance policy you expect that you will be covered and appropriately compensated for your loss.
I asked Seamus Heffernan of Nationwide Loss Assessors for any tips when making a claim to your insurance company:
“The Insurance Company will naturally try to limit their exposure to the loss and will appoint a Loss Adjuster or handler to look after the insurance claim on their behalf. These are normally highly trained claims professionals whose job it is to look after the interests of the insurance company.
We often hear people say what great advice and how helpful the insurance company appointed loss adjuster has been but while they are trained and experienced professionals you must remember they act for the insurance company and are paid by the Insurance Company and will not therefore be looking out for you.
It therefore makes sense that you should hire your own qualified, experienced and professional loss assessor to look after your insurance claim.
Your own loss assessor will prepare and negotiate the Insurance Claim on your behalf and ensure that everything you are entitled to claim is included in your claim.
At Nationwide Loss Assessors we will at all times act in your best interest and work to ensure that you get the best outcome to your insurance claim so you can get your home, investment property or business back to normal with the minimum of fuss.
Whether it’s
- a fire insurance claim
- a flood claim
- an escape of water claim ; or
- storm damage
Nationwide Loss Assessors will ensure that your best interests are looked after at every step of the claims process to ensure that you fully recover the value of your loss under your policy.
For example, I had a person tell me that he recently had a chimney fire but thought that as he did not call out the fire brigade he would not have a valid claim. As an experienced Loss Assessor I advised him that I would have to review his policy as that would be an unusual requirement set out in a policy.
Upon review I was able to tell him that he had a perfectly valid claim. He engaged my services and the claim settled for over €6,000.
Whenever you experience accidental damage to your property my best advice would be to always call a Public Loss Assessor for professional advice first as it could be the difference between having your claim paid or denied.”
