Registering a business name with the Companies Registration Office provides no intellectual property protection. The purpose of registering the business name is to inform the public that you are trading under a name that is not your own name.
Also registering a company name is no guarantee that the name is available to use for your business.
Always check the Register of Trade Marks for at a minimum Ireland and Europe to double check that the name is not already protected by someone else in the same business as you or in a similar business.
If you are intending to do business in other jurisdictions you should also check whether the name is available for use in those jurisdictions.
